Terri won the Figure overall title at the 2009 NPC JR Nationals over the weekend and is now featured on her first cover. Most of you are well aware of who Jamie Eason is and if not what cave have you been living in?
I saw a photo of Jamie in 2005 shortly after her first NPC competition. She looked great and definitely caught my attention. I contacted Jamie via email and did a brief interview/profile with her for NPC NEWS magazine. Yes, she has a good physique and yes, she’s cute but the thing that impressed me the most about Jamie was her attitude. While working a booth at the Arnold Expo, she was friendly to everyone who approached her, was knowledgeable about the product samples she was handing out and made an impression. My point? There are plenty of hardbodies out there and a number of attractive women in the fitness industry. Take a chapter out of Jamie’s book and make an impression beyond looking cute.
Jamie has been on several magazine covers and is on another this month. The new issue of Inside Fitness has Jamie looking fit as ever. If you’re in Canada check it out, Terry Frendo is doing a tremendous job with this magazine.

Jamie Eason is doing things right and proof that you can make it in the fitness industry. She didn’t get there overnight but has definitely made a name for herself in the industry.
The July/August issue of Muscle & Fitness Hers is on stands now with Kim Kardshian on the cover. Now before you go complaining about a celebrity being on the cover over a competitor, stop and think for a minute. Kim Kardashian looks good. Is she the fittest person ever to grace the cover? No. Will she introduce more people to the industry by being on the cover? Absolutely. The more NEW people we bring into the industry the better and she’s doing that.
You can see some of your favorite competitors in the issue as well. IFBB pros, Christine Pomponio-Pate, Nicole Wilkins-Lee and Kristi Tauti have featured workouts. Of course you’ll want to check out the “Twist & Turns” column, which is written by yours truly.

Jamie Eason continues to rack up more covers. This time it’s outside of the fitness industry with the current cover of Skin & Ink. Jamie is sporting a bit of both, a little skin and a bit of ink, for the popular tattoo magazine.

The hottest FLEX swimsuit issue to date is on newsstands now. IFBB Pros Nicole Wilkins-Lee and Felicia Romero along with top NPC competitor Monique Minton grace the cover. The folks at WEIDER Publications agreed with the majority of you on the cover selection. Sixy-eight percent of you thought this was the winning cover in our poll. The cover and inside swimsuit photos were shot by one of the top industry photographers, Terry Goodlad.

The new issue doesn’t go on sale until December 22nd but Jessica Paxson-Putnam gave fans a sneak peak on myspace today. Props to Jessica for her Jan/Feb cover of Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine. She has now graced the cover of FLEX, Muscle & Fitness and now Muscle & Fitness Hers. Quite an accomplishment for the blonde beauty.

Celeste Gonzalez is a perfect example of a woman who often finds more success off stage than on. Despite being in the dreaded tied for 16th position she continues to sport a smile and a winning attitude. Celeste shares, “I’m changing my body and I know I need more time to start seeing results. But I enjoyed it very much competing! I’m happy when I compete and try always to do better.” This striking beauty from Spain is very photogentic and publications are starting to take notice. Celeste is featured on the current cover of Sport Life Magazine, an honor she received by winning a cover model contest.

This is a very special post for me. Why? I am pleased to say it is my first cover. No, it’s not me on the cover, which I’m sure we’re all thankful for, but rather a photo I took. I’ve had many other photos published over the years but to have your photo make the cover is a huge honor. Like many other things, you always remember your first.
It was also an honor to be part of this cover because it showcases UFC heavyweights, Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar. Their November 15th fight is being billed as the “Biggest fight in mixed martial arts history“. Pavell Ythjall photographed Randy and I photographed Brock for the cover as well as their training. It is with that, I’m ecstatic to provide a first look at the December 2008 issue of FLEX Magazine.

Those of you wondering what any of this has to do with fitness or figure, don’t fret. This isn’t a post just to toot my horn. FLEX magazine continues to feature the women and in this issue the featured profile is Mary Elizabeth Lado. The December 2008 issue of IRONMAN magazine arrived yesterday and inside it features IFBB Pro Debbie Leung. There are several Michael Neveux photos that run full page with the Canadian competitor. Debbie recently revamped her web site, check it and the magazine out.

Should magazine covers be retouched? Fox News apparently thinks so. This was a rather amusing twist coming from the conservative news station.
Andrea Tantaros, a republican correspondent cries out, “This cover is clear slap in the face of Sarah Palin. Why? Because it’s unretouched. It highlights every imperfection that every human being has…”
Hmmm. Now that is an interesting take on things. Crying out that a photo wasn’t un-retouched? Most of the time people complain that photos have been retouched and aren’t realistic. I’d have to say the ladies seem to be overreacting just a bit on the segment.

The newest cover of Playboy feature’s the
UFC’s Rachelle Leah on the cover. I listened to a recent interview with UFC president, Dana White mention he was happy for her on the cover and feature. It’s interesting to hear him comment openly and give his approval. He’s a bit of an outspoken guy known to speak his mind, so I’m not surprised. It made me wonder though, would every company be happy that one of their poster girls is posing for PLAYBOY? Probably not, but Dana doesn’t run his company like others. Clearly he’s stoked because it puts the UFC’s name front and center on a popular men’s magazine, whose readers are his demographic. Smart move by both the UFC and the magazine, in my opinion for the cover choice.
You may recall seeing Rachelle on the January 2008 issue of
FLEX magazine. If not here’s a refresher for you…

Obviously, PLAYBOY is not for everyone and if you’re against it that’s your choice. It does bring up an interesting discussion though. An overwhelming majority of women have commented on my favorite female forum,
siouxcountry.com, that they would rather be featured in print than a web site. I’m not surprised by that for many reasons but I’ll save that topic for another time. What I’m curious about is would you pose for PLAYBOY if given the opportunity?There are many things to consider.
• Am I comfortable with my body to go topless?
• What my family with think?
• If I pose will this hurt me in the industry with other magazines?
• Will it cause problems at my job?
There’s obviously more thing to consider but you get the point. When it comes to getting published in FLEX most women jump at the opportunity. Would you do the same for PLAYBOY - in any capacity?

Inside Fitness magazine continues to refine itself and publish solid content. The Autumn 2008 issue features the newest IFBB Pro, Natalie Waples. Can publisher/editor Terry Frendo see the future? Good call and great timing on Terry’s part to feature Natalie as his cover model. I had the chance to meet Natalie at the North American Championships and she is not only beautiful but also a funny little lass. Congrats to Natalie on her pro card and new cover.

Jamie Eason is every where women want to be. This time around it’s on the cover of Oyxgen magazine’s September issue. Jamie has risen to modeling stardom over the past couple of years and is also sponsored by bodybuilding.com, the biggest health and fitness web site in the world. Her boyfriend is the lead singer in a band that has also found success as of late. Congratulations to Jamie on her continued success.

Thanks to Laura Johnson of POSEDOWN magazine for passing along the photo and new cover. POSEDOWN, a Texas based magazine, features IFBB Fitness Pro Trish Warren as the newest cover model. Trish has her own column in the magazine each month as well. Laura tells me Black Mamba plans on smashing the competition and did a little demonstration of her skills recently. The stunning Teresa Anthony is heating things up on and off stage. She not only qualified for the 2008 Figure Olympia at the Pittsburgh Pro but she’s also burning things up with her modeling. She’s the cover model for the June 2008 issue of Southern Muscle Plus and will be featured in an upcoming issue of FLEX magazine. Props to Teresa!

I had a chance to meet up with Khristy Poteat at the 2008 NPC Jr. Nationals, where she was competing in Figure. She’s a super sweet girl that has an All-American, buff Barbiedoll look. Khristy was looking to improve on her Charleston showing (the Jr USA) and present a slightly different look. She definitely accomplished that goal. At the JR USAs Khristy was very well conditioned, however the look was too hard and she appeared too muscular for figure. Thursday night she told me she was coming in a bit softer and had worked on her posing. I could tell in her face that she wasn’t as hard as when I saw her in Charleston. It was a good thing for her and when she took the stage it was a much, much better look. Her posing was good this time and the softened look was in line with what the judges are rewarding. Despite not placing as high as she would have liked she was in good spirits after the show. What’s next for her? She hasn’t decided but she has a great physique and you can see her on the cover of the current Southern Muscle Plus issue. Congratulations on the cover Khristy!

IFBB Pro Rosa-Marie Romero has landed her sixth cover. This time it is for Hardcore Aussie Muscle. The magazine is set to hit stands next week. This Australian beauty is the first female to land on the cover. The photo was taken by our Canadian friend Gary Phillips, location: Gold’s Gym Venice. Congrats Rosa-Marie!
