Adela Garcia… Still in The Game

Isaac Hinds | Industry News, chica's corner | Saturday, 15 August 2009, 6:55 pm

Adela is still in it and she has her sights set on winning the Olympia. Adela told me she was a little nervous to be back on stage and knew everyone was looking at her leg. She put her fears behind her and tackled them like the champion that she is. Adela nailed her two minute routine and you would never know she had an injury that sidelined her for months. Like her shirt said, she is definitely “still in the game”.

Don’t Call It a Comeback… She’s been here for Years

Isaac Hinds | IFBB shows, Olympia, chica's corner | Friday, 07 August 2009, 9:17 am

Fitness competitors heading into next week’s Europa Super show… Watch out. Adela Garcia is returning to the stage and she’s ready. The LL Cool J’s song “Mama Said Knock You Out” has some appropriate lyrics for Adela’s return to the stage…

Don’t call it a comeback
I been here for years
Rockin’ my peers
Puttin’ suckers in fear
Makin’ the tears rain down like a monsoon
Listen to the bass go boom
Explosion, overpowerin’
Over the competition, I’m towerin’

I chatted with Adela yesterday as she was headed to practice her fitness routine. How’s one of the most talented fitness athletes doing? She’s doing great but it hasn’t been all roses the last year and a half.

Adela has worked hard and established herself as one of the best fitness competitors in IFBB history. The last time we saw her was on the 2007 Olympia stage where she left a winner. Adela decided to sit out the 2008 Fitness International and then tragedy struck. A fitness competitor’s worst nightmare…injury. Adela injured her knee and it forced her out of defending her Olympia title.

The road to recovery hasn’t been easy for Adela. She, like many people who suffer an injury, must battle not only the physical aspect of recovery but also the mental. Adela commented, “Yes, it took me awhile to get back to the hard floor for my routine and I am very thankful for all the support from my family and friends. I am all good now so don’t you worry.”

Adela tells me fans will get to see a look at her new routine next week in Dallas. When I asked her if it would be the same routine she does at the Olympia she shared, “Yes but I will be adding more moves for the Olympia routine but you’ll get a taste of what I’m working with”. When asked how she felt about Jen Hendershott being out of the Olympia Adela said, “I’m sad. I love Jenny and it is always fun to compete with her.” Really? You’re sad one of your toughest competitors is out? “We’ve competed against each other for many years and it will be weird not to compete against her and Kim (Klien) this year”.

I’m happy Adela is back. She brings tremendous energy to the stage with her routines and a show is always better with her in it. Welcome back Adela and we look forward to seeing you on stage in Dallas and then Vegas.

“Watch Out…There’s a new set of boobs on stage”

Isaac Hinds | Arnold Classic, IFBB shows, chica's corner | Wednesday, 14 January 2009, 8:26 am

That was the response when I asked Adela Garcia how here Arnold prep was going. No, she doesn’t literally have a new set of boobs but she is serving notice to her fellow Figure International competitors. She laughed at her silliness and shared she is excited to be competing in the Figure portion of the contest. Adela has been on the Arnold stage before but in fitness, an event she has won… twice. This will be her first time competing in figure at this contest, hence the new boobs comment. She went on to tell me, “I can walk normal now. I’m 112 pounds and I feel great.” Adela was hobbling around with a crutch the last time I saw her. Fully recovered and ready to rock Adela is on pace to shake things up.

Stay tuned for more updates from The Chica, she has a number of things in the works.

Chica’s Corner: Getting Motivated During the Cold

Isaac Hinds | chica's corner, interviews | Friday, 12 December 2008, 6:37 am

Got a question… Ask Adela.
Question: Question: It’s getting cold and it’s hard for me to get motivated. Do you have any tips for getting out of the house when it’s cold?
Adela: I understand your agony. I used to live in Illinois and when it got cold outside my training took a different direction. Luckily, I was always preparing for a contest, which inspired me to get out of bed each morning and train.
I found it helpful to switch around my training and set new goals to keep myself motivated. I would look at the aerobics schedule and try new classes and also go to a different gym to change the routine and see new faces. Sometimes a new environment will help get your motivation back during the winter season.
I would also use the holiday season as a motivational tool to stay in decent shape.  While everyone else is splurging day in and day out throughout the holidays I would limit myself to not one, not two, but three cheat meals per week if I was not getting ready for a show. This helped me enjoy the holiday food but also retain my figure. We are all going to find the cold season as an obstacle in our way to obtaining our fitness goals, but we have to find ways to keep ourselves motivated.  I’ve been known to listen to different music, attend a variety of aerobic and training classes, or just change up my whole routine, just to keep things interesting. I think that is why people lay off the gym in the first place, a lack of variety.  Try to put some variety into your workouts and your training schedule and you might just find that motivation you were looking for.
When it is cold outside and you just don’t want to get out of the house, put your workout clothes on and you will have no excuse not to go. Say no to the cozy bed, and no to the holiday food. It really can be easy, just lock yourself in a closet full of weights!!! I hope this helps, but if it doesn’t, just put a picture of me on your refrigerator and you will be motivated for life. LOL.. just kidding. :)
Have a wonderful weekend and don’t miss a workout.
Going to run bleachers!!! Yea Right!!! Maybe in about 3 months!

Chica is out!

Chica’s Corner: Staying Motivated During the Holidays

Tips with IFBB Fitness Pro Adela Garcia.

How do you stay motivated to eat healthy during the holidays?

Well… With being a fitness and figure competitor I like to stay in athletic shape all year round. My diet stays fairly consistent throughout the year where I allow myself a few cheat meals a week. This allows me to have some of those foods that I keep out of my diet and does not mess with my shape too much. During contest prep I am a little more strict and don’t allow myself too many cheat meals. I know how hard it is to get in the shape that we get in and I don’t want to sabotage my figure by eating a bad meal.

The Holidays can be very hard, especially during contest prep. If I am getting ready for a show, my main motivating factor is coming into the show in my best condition. I know I can’t do that if I am not spot on with my diet. If I am not dieting for a show things are a little bit easier and I can allow myself to have that piece of cheesecake, carrot cake, brownie, stuffing…you get the idea. I contribute the shape of my body to keeping a balanced diet throughout the year. I think this is crucial in maintaining my muscle as well as just staying healthy and keeping a good mind set.

Just remember to keep a balanced diet and allow yourself a few cheat meals throughout the week. This will help eliminate those food cravings. Have a great Holiday season and make sure you visit my website at www.adelafitness.com and sign up for my monthly newsletter.

New Hardbody Feature: Chica’s Corner

Champion IFBB Pro Adela Garcia answers your questions.

IFBB Pro Adela “Chica” Garcia is seasoned veteran to the fitness scene. She’s a three Fitness Olympia Champion and Two-time Fitness International Champion. I’m pleased to announce she will be answering some of your questions here on hardbody.com in “Chica’s Corner”. If you have a question for the fitness diva please post it here or email her through her web site. Adela answers her first question, a topic that is fresh on her mind.

Hardbody.com Reader: I suffered an injury recently. How do you mentally get past it?

Adela: Patience is the key!

We must understand that we did not build our physiques and athleticism overnight and an injury is not going to heal itself overnight either. I am learning that patience is key to overcoming any injury. Being in a very competitive and demanding sport an injury can completely change your state of mind. You want to avoid the fact that you are injured and just push through the pain, but you have to remember that your body is in a healing state and needs the rest.

The most important thing to remember is to listen and trust your doctors and physical therapist. My sports medicine doctor told me,”child, you must learn how to walk, before you can run”. I have to look at the big picture and listen to my body and REST. Also, stay positive and keep believing in yourself. Nothing in life is easy and you can overcome anything in life as long as you put your heart to it.
