Sweden’s Fit Momma Linda Fodor Debuts in Phoenix

It’s often challenging for competitors outside of the United States to get the same amount of publicity as those living in the states. This is largely because the NPC competitions offer competitors an opportunity to compete and get noticed before achieving IFBB Pro status. One event that offers competitors from all over the world a chance to compete on U.S. soil is the Arnold Amateur. One competitor who participated in 2008 Arnold will be making her IFBB Pro debut this weekend in Phoenix. Swedens’ Linda Fodor won the A class that year and before that notched a second place finish at the World Championships.

One year ago this time Linda was pregnant and in March of 2009 she gave birth to a beautiful little girl. She’s since received her IFBB Pro card and will be making the trek across the globe for her pro debut. She’s shed 67 pounds since the birth of her baby and built an impressive physique in the process.

linda

Today Linda will travel 16 hours to compete in the figure competition. Every competitor wants to win and I’m certain Linda is no different. She’s certainly won the respect and admiration of many by what she’s already accomplished. Losing the amount of weight she has, preparing for a show with a child less than a year old AND traveling across the globe… WOW! Congratulations Linda, you’re already a winner for this amazing accomplishment. You can read more about Linda on siouxcountry.com. Safe travels and good luck in your first pro show.

Hardbody Visitor’s Guide to the Phoenix Pro

I had the chance to check out the area in and around this weekend’s Phoenix Pro after a recent photo shoot. Here’s a look at some information that may be helpful to those of you attending this weekend’s event.
phoenixpro

Those of you flying into Phoenix will find it’s about 25 minutes from the airport to the host hotel. Ordinarily it’s about a 15 minute drive but there is construction en route to the hotel. Once you arrive you should be pleased with the accommodations.

Transportation:
• A car service to the hotel is a flate $35 fee. The number to call is 480-251-1451 for this service.
• Cab – will cost you around $40-50 but could be more depending on traffic.
• $16-$20 SuperShuttle – cheapest way but will also take you the longest.

Host Hotel:
Marriott Phoenix Mesa
200 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ 85201
Phone: (480) 898-8300

az1
Front of the host hotel.

az2
View of the pools at the host hotel.

az3
Another look at the back of the host hotel.

There’s a Starbucks in the lobby for your morning jolt and a restaurant (Café Azul) that should have a special menu as well as a reasonably priced regular menu.  There are refrigerators in every room, which competitors will find quite handy to keep their food. The hotel also has a number of microwaves that competitors can use. The internet is free and there is a business center should you need to use a computer other than your own. Roll-aways are available at check-in should you feel the need to have a slumber party in your room.

Gyms:
The hotel gym has a few pieces of cardio but beyond that you’ll likely want to find another place to hit the weights. I was able to score a dozen free passes to the local YMCA that is walking distance from the hotel. If you’re interested in one of these passes email me and I’ll save one for you find me on Friday and I can give you one then.

freepass

The YMCA gym has an adequate supply of weights and workout equipment that should suit your needs. If you’re a hardcore cat and want to get your pump on at other gyms here are some nearby ones. Those of you looking to do photo shoots should note the YMCA does allow shoots but they charge $50/hr. The nearby Gold’s Gym allows it but not on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday because a magazine already has dibs on it. Here’s a couple nearby gyms other than the YMCA:

La Fitness - 4.3miles (10min) from hotel
1126 S. Gilbert Rd, Mesa AZ #480-503-0344
$15 a day, or can get free pass online www.lafitness.com
hrs – m-th 4am to 11pm, fri 4am to 10pm, sat-sun 7am to 8pm

Golds Gym –
5.2miles (12min) from hotel
2156 E. Baseline Rd. Mesa AZ #480-497-8686 www.goldsgym.com
$15 a day, or if have out of state mbrship just need to bring travel pass
hrs – m-f 5am to 11pm, sat-sun 5am-10pm

Mesa Community College -
4.4miles (10min) from hotel
1833 W. Southern Ave. Mesa AZ
Free track and stadiums

—————————-

Food:
Aside from there hotel restaurant mentioned there are a few places within walking distance or a 5 minute drive from the hotel.

• Diamond Sports Grille - across the street from the hotel. They server basic bar food, a number of burgers and if looking to keep it healthy they have 6-8 different salads to choose from. This joint holds about 100 people so I look for it to be packed after the show on Saturday night. The manager told me they stop serving around 10 or 11 but will likely have a special menu available after the show.

• There’s your usual fast food if you’re anxious to have an after show “meal”. McDonald’s, Jack-N-Box and Rosa’s Mexican

• Food near the contest venue consist of a Subway and pizza

—————————-

Misc.
Ladies, if you need your nails done or looking for a place to get your hair done, there are two salons within walking distance to the venue and 5 minutes from the hotel.

—————————-

Weather:
The weather should be great and highs are expected to be in the 70s all weekend. I’m stoked for this part because a snowstorm is heading into Denver today. SWEET MOTHER NATURE THANK YOU FOR ARIZONA IN THE WINTER!

If anyone in or near the event has something to add that would be helpful to those of us from out-of-state/country, please post in the comments below. Thanks and safe travels everyone and we’ll see you at the show!

Rookie Debuts in Phoenix

We’re just two days away from the Phoenix Pro show, which will kick off the IFBB Pro season. Twenty-three women will take to the stage in the figure division, nearly half of those women will be doing for for the first time as pros. Ten rookies will make their pro debuts at this event.

phoenixpro

This is a very competitive group. Listy Allen won the overall at the 2009 NPC USAs, Monica Mark took top honors at the 2009 Team Universe and Mindi Smith was the overall winner at the 2009 Nationals. Add those three to the seven other pro card winners and you’ve got a battle.

Which rookie will place the highest?

Michelle Wickert-Hatcher Got Hooked UP!

We have a winner in the Hardbody Hook-Up! Michelle Wickert-Hatcher is the winner of our WEC/UFC Hook up, beating out a number of very worthy recipients. Michelle wins TWO FREE tickets to the WEC event in Columbus along with a UFC prize pack. Thanks to Reed Harris from the WEC and Larry Pepe from Pro MMA Radio for the assist on hooking this up.

Michelle convinced us she was a worthy winner by her MMA knowledge along with this story and photo…

There are many, many reasons why winning these tickets would mean so much. HOWEVER, there’s one reason more important than those above. My husband lost his job back in December and like many, we’ve struggled. No Christmas presents, no New Year’s dinner… just us making ends meet over the holidays.

Luckily, he got a full-time job last week and things are going to get better. His 40th Birthday is Monday February 15th. The Arnold weekend is my present to him / our Christmas / New Years / Valentines present to each other. We’re making the most of what we’ve got by driving to the event from Richmond, VA, packing food from home for the weekend and using some free reward nights at the hotel.

So as you can see… winning tickets to the WEC would make this trip truly special.

Sincerely,

-Michelle

Bridgette Breaks it Down

I caught up IFBB Fitness Pro Bridgette Murray as she heads into the Phoenix Pro. Bridgette has made some changes to her prep and is coming into Arizona ready to rock the fitness stage.

bridgettemurray

HB: You competed the end of last year at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. How was your experience there and what feedback were you given?
Let’s just say the experience was much better than the feedback! They (the promoters) put on a wonderful show, at a fantastic venue; we were really treated like stars. The feedback on the other hand was expected- need to bring the physique down and in better condition – it’s my main area of weakness.

HB: You’ve always had strong routines but the criticism has been your conditioning. What have you done differently to prepare for this show?
Well, I relinquished control to Kim Oddo… that’s what I did differently. In the past I have trained myself…for the most part and when you allow yourself to be in control, it easier to say “I think I have done enough cardio today…OR this one little cheat won’t hurt me.” But, the problem is…it’s never enough cardio, and the little cheats DO hurt you. It finally apparent to me that something needed to change.

HB: What prompted you team up with Kim Oddo for this show?
My husband! After the last show in Fort Lauderdale, he basically told me that if I was going to do another show that I would be hiring someone…and he suggested I contact Kim. So I did. I was skeptical at first (my own control issues, of course) – I’m sure Kim would agree…but he made a believer out of me. In the trainer-athlete relationship, and in this sport… they say ‘JUMP’, you ask – ‘how high?!’

HB: How’s it been working with Kim?
Kim has been fabulous! I couldn’t have asked for a better dyanmic, for me personally. I like a straight shooter and that’s what he is. After this experience with him…I am not sure I could ever go back to attempting it on my own. He becomes the brains of the process-so it’s nice not to think about it…you just DO IT!

HB: Is it difficult to work with another trainer when you yourself train people?
I think this was originally part of my hesitation- but it’s not difficult at all! He has my best interests in mind and will do everything he can to help me reach my goals- which is what I do for the girls I train. Training others and training yourself is two totally different ball games. Even though I may have the knowledge I need to get through this process, it much more difficult to apply to yourself than to apply to others.

HB: When Saturday’s show takes place what will we see from Bridgette Murray?
More confidence. Regardless of the outcome of the show… I will know all the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice that I put in to get here – in the big picture, bettering yourself is a huge accomplishment…so, I can finally say I am proud of what I have done~ I gave it my all.

HB: You help women with their fitness routines in Colorado or is it everywhere? Tell people a bit more about your services and what you offer to fitness competitors.

We (my husband and I) do routines for competitors anywhere and everywhere; however most end up being local. My weekly fitness classes are the core of the team training for the fitness gals. It allows us all to feed off of each other and have the support system we need as athletes in this sport. We don’t only offer routines, we do the whole package- nutrition, strength training, cardio etc- however it’s more or less an a-la-cart menu…which is why we have had other trainers refer girls to us for routines only. We also have the figure girls come to class, for conditioning and posing.

HB: Will see you in any other shows this year?
I am not sure what the rest of the year holds for me. Right now, my focus is on getting through this show and enjoying the spring. My husband and I are close to celebrating our 1 yr anniversary in May which calls for a vacation/celebration!! We’ll see where the journey takes me after that.

HB: What are your favorite supplements while preparing for a show?
Is SLEEP a supplement? Ha! Well, aside from the normal vitamins and such- I love coffee! Not a morning or practice goes by without a giant cup. BUT, if we are talking REAL sports supplements, I have to say I was introduced to MRM’s Digest All for this show- I really like the ‘digestive assistance’ it provides. It helps eliminate some of the unwanted side effects of a high protein diet! ha!

Muscle Helps Boost Olympic Ice Skater’s Performance

The New York Times has a good article on Olympic ice skater Tanith Belbin and her issues with weight. The American skater focused on proper nutrition and lifting weights to improve her on-ice performance.

Belbin began reading books about nutrition and eating lunch at the rink. She learned to eat foods that would best sustain an athlete’s body.

She also began training harder off the ice, lifting weights, doing push-ups and participating in Karponosov’s boot camps, which involve hard-core skating drills to strengthen the legs.

Check it out on The New York Times.

Hardbody Music: Amanda Blank – Make it Take it

“Make it Take it” is a catchy little tune by Amanda Blank.

Meade set to Make Pro Debut

Jaime Meade is one of several women from Colorado who will be competing in the Phoenix Pro show this weekend. Jaime turned pro at the 2009 Team Universe contest and after a bit of time off she’s ready to rock. I caught up with the rookie to see what she’s been up to and how she’s approaching her debut.

jaimemeade

HB: How’s it feel to be a week out from your IFBB Pro Debut?
PINCH ME! I’m beyond excited to experience it all both on and off stage! Counting down the days before we board the plane for AZ BABY! Give me a big fat sweet potato and let’s carb up! :)

HB: What’s changed in your diet and nutrition since you turned pro?
STRAIGHT UP CLEAN EATING! :) I began contest prep 18 weeks out to afford some wiggle room along the way. Pulling artificial sweetners and products, and consuming more protein from more whole food sources instead of protein drinks. Overall the biggest change in both training/nurtition has been working with Kim Oddo. He has been the master behind the all the great changes in my diet/nutrition/training style.

HB: Why the Phoenix show for your debut?
Since the Arnold is two weeks after I thought it would drive away all the “PRO VETS” away to give the “Little Pros” a chance to play! But I do think this year we are going to see a hefty competitive line up within the Pro Circuit..that’s what it’s all about though right? Keeps us all pushin harder!

HB: What goals do you have for the 2010 competitive season?
Get up in the top 10 line up..for my PRO DEBUT! :)

HB: You’ve become pretty familiar with supplements through working at Max Muscle. Has working at a nutrition store helped you or do you want to get away and not talk about protein at this point?
I never get tired talking SUPPS! Working at Max Muscle in Lone Tree, Colorado has helped a ton! I work once a week at the store to target mostly women in pursuit of creating and pushing toward their individual goals using Max Muscle Supplements. Knowing what works for me and why by using Max Muscle Supps offers me the opportunity to help other people too!

HB: If you have to pick one supplement that’s helped you what would you say it is?
Max Muscle XTR extreme training recovery is one of my favorite products. XTR is aperfect blend of branched chain amino acids Glutamine, Citrulline, Argining AKG and other synergistic ingredients. The product really helps to prevent muscle breakdown and is super effective at promoting rapid recovery and reducing soreness from my most intense workouts. NO SUGAR, NO CARBS, NO Calories…it’s a Figure competitors best friend!

HB: That’s a pretty good pitch. They should have you working the store more than once a week. :)

HB: You also have another occupation you’re passionate about. Tell people about your “day job”.
My “day job” is being a Pediatric Physical Therapist. Kids with cerebral palsy, autism, muscular dystrophy, any type of special needs, physical impairments…all have a special place in my heart!:) Giving these kiddos the experience to learn how to move either in their own bodies or through adaptive equipment brings so much joy and fulfillment into my life.

HB: On Saturday night what place will Jaime Meade’s name be next to?
TOP 10…at LEAST..I hope! It’s hard to say where I will line up amongt the other super star rookies and IFBB PROs.

HB: When someone says Jaime Meade – what do you hope they think of?
Positive energy, always smiling and genuine.

HB: Aight Rapid Fire – first thing that comes to mind…
I ate rabbits that were on fire..ha ha ha ..that is protein right!?

HB: HAHA. You need a carb or three

HB: Nickelback
saw in concert last year…rocks in concert but not on IPOD.

HB:Favorite song to work out to
Meet the Monster by Five Finger Death Punch

HB: Chocolate sardines are
They are dipped in chocolate…so they are DELISH!

HB: Fishing in the dark is
Stupid. Im scared of fish and being around water in the dark

HB: I am craving
peanut butter and banana wrapped in a wheat tortilla

HB: Sounds oddly delish!

HB: Peanut Butter is
Best when licked off your finger

HB: The smell of asparagus is
A reminder you are competing in a week

HB: If I were a ferret

I’d ask for a cute sweater and poop all over the place

HB: An iced cold beer
Is calling my name…BLUE MOON BABY!!

HB: I think snuggies are
warm and comfy…but not allowed in my house (per boyfriend)

Thanks Jaime. Good luck in your pro debut and we’ll see you in Phoenix!

Mendi Sakamoto is Gunning for Phoenix

We’re just days away from the first IFBB Pro Figure event of 2010 and Mendi Sakamoto is stoked to be part of it. I caught up with the blonde beauty as she heads into this weekend’s Phoenix Pro show. Take a minute to get to know a bit more about Mendi and how she balances her “Brady Bunch” life and competing.

mendi

HB: It’s been a year or so since we last saw you compete. What prompted you to take some time off?
I had a pretty painful shoulder injury that required some time off from hard training. Nothing too serious, just overuse. I kind of looked at the time off as a blessing in disguise, and we (my husband and I) were able to spend the year focusing on the kids and their many activities. It was also a great opportunity for us to take time off and travel to places like Sun Valley, the Bahamas, Napa Valley and Vegas. It is so nice to travel without having to bring your food or obsess about getting your workouts in!

HB: How many children do you have?
We are a Brady bunch…a blended family with 5 kids. I had 3 children and my husband had 2 when we married.

HB: What’s the key to balancing a family life and a competitive figure life?
You really have to be organized and manage your time well. Every night before I go to bed I write out a list of what I need to get done the next day and schedule everything. While getting ready for a show it becomes really important for me to make sure that I prioritize what’s important….my faith, my family and my training…the rest can wait.

HB: Why comeback at this show?
I am healthy and ready to compete again. As crazy as it sounds, I actually missed the discipline and the whole process that goes into preparing for a show. I plan to compete in a few shows this year and really wanted to get after it early in the season. It certainly didn’t hurt that it is in Phoenix and as a former baseball player, my husband is looking forward to watching a little Spring Training while we are down there.

HB: Have you trained differently since you last competed?
Much more of a functional workout program. I still hit the weights hard, but I have added track workouts a couple times a week… sprints, intervals, running stairs and plyometrics. My goal has been to balance out my physique and bring up my lower body.

HB: Looking back…is there anything you wish someone would have told you about when you first got started?
Use a professional tanning service like Jan Tana…It is one less thing that you have to worry about the day of the show and you know that they will do a great job.

HB: Any supplements you take that you’d recommend to other women?
Udo’s oil, Vitamin C, and Muscle Milk protein plus

HB: How do you maintain a balance with your husband while dieting?
Like many parents, a lot of my evenings are consumed with kids, sports and activities…but once a week Jeff and I block out an evening for date night. We really try to be intentional about spending time together and having fun…even when I am dieting. For example, last week on our date night we went out to the gun range…and had a blast :-) (No pun intended)

NICE! Let me fire off a few things and you tell me the first thing that comes to mind.

Guys with mullets are___
deal-breakers

I’m really craving____
yellow cake with sprinkles

I can’t sleep without____
3 pillows and a ceiling fan

Gallon jugs are_____
Ummm…are we talking water or boobs?

HAHA!

Anyone you’d like to thank in closing?
My husband, Jeff, is an amazing partner and I wouldn’t be able to do all this without his support and understanding. Also, Mark Nichols with Sledge Athletics here in Portland has been a great resource to keep me focused and accountable.

Good luck Mendi! We’ll see ya in Phoenix.

Kick’n It with Khadr – Hardbody Insight with Ariel Khadr

Welcome IFBB Fitness Pro Ariel Khadr to our growing list of Hardbody contributors. Ariel achieved IFBB Pro status last year at the NPC Fitness Nationals and in the process became the IFBB Pro League’s youngest member. At age 17, she has time on her side and without question one of the most talented women to join the pro ranks. She’s an accomplished gymnast and holds a second-degree black belt in TaeKwonDo. Our goal is to provide a unique voice from one of the fitness industry’s brightest stars. Check out the first installment of “Kick’n it with Khadr”.

arielkhadr
Lately, I’ve been watching TV shows about weight issues in this country. I find that people have a huge misconception about how simple it is to lose weight the right way and to not feel hungry or deprived. Just by changing what you eat, you can still eat just as much or even more and still lose weight! For example… if you normally have a t-bone steak dinner with mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies, you might want to have sirloin steak, with a baked potato or baked sweet potato (use spray butter and butter buds) and lots of steamed veggies instead. Learn to utilize spices when cooking and try low calorie snacks like sugar-free jello, sugar-free ice pops, and miracle noodles!

Learn more about Ariel in her bodybuilding.com interview. Be sure to follow Ariel on twitter (twitter.com/arielkhadr) and give her a Hardbody shout or in this case tweet. While you do that I’m going to check out these miracle noodles she’s talking about, they sound pretty good!

Everybody Gets Knocked Down

Love’n ‘Ali in The Jungle’ by The Hours.

Great lyrics like…

It’s, not, where you are, It’s where you’re going,
Where are you going?
And it’s, not, about the things you’ve done, it’s what you’re doing, now,
What are you doing, now?

Everybody gets knocked down,
Everybody gets knocked down,
How quick are you gonna’ get up?
How quick are you gonna’ get up, now?

The song is featured in a new NIKE commercial that is bad ass.

Yikes – Here Comes The “Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010″

Looks like the United States government is looking to get more involved in regulating dietary supplements. What does this mean for supplement users? A sign of what’s to come is in the bill’s language; “To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to more effectively regulate dietary supplements that may pose safety risks unknown to consumers.” Sounds pretty open-ended and could be disastrous for some supplement companies.

You can read the bill that was introduced to the Senate here.

Mommy’s Body Gets Attention in Knoxville

Props to NPC Figure competitor Carlene Steenekamp for getting some exposure in Knox News. Many women will use having a child as an excuse not to workout but Carlene isn’t one of them. Instead, she started her own business (Mommy’s Body) and it sounds like it’s doing quite well. This is a great example of not just talking about how you’re unique but doing something about it. Best of luck Carlene!

Thanks to Jessica Paxson Putnam for bringing it to my attention via facebook.

Arnold Amateur Competitor Lists Published

The 2010 Arnold Amateur is quickly approaching and the competitor lists have been made available to the public. Check out the nearly 300 women who have sent in their application to compete in this year’s events. If you question the popularity of the bikini division, you might change your mind after seeing the list. There are nearly 100 competitors in that event alone which nearly triples last year’s bikini entries.

Phoenix Pro Fitness Just Got Interesting

The IFBB Pro League’s competitive season kicks off this Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona. While the final lists are yet to be published, I received word from J.M. Manion that three more pros have sent in their contracts.

phoenixpro

Here’s the list to date but keep in mind it’s President’s Day in the U.S., we may not have a final list until tomorrow. Those of you who are IFBB Pros, please note that you can also fax or email your contract into the IFBB Pro League office. If you know you’re going to compete, please send it in ASAP so the media can help get build some interest in the event. That said check out the current line-up for this weekend’s Phoenix Pro Fitness show.

IFBB PHOENIX PRO WOMEN’S FITNESS

1 – Oksana Grishina
2 – Tanji Johnson
3 – Julie Palmer
4 – Yenny Polanco
5 – Bridgette Murray
6 – Nita Marquez
7 – Camala Rodriguez

Okay, NOW I’m stoked. This is a VERY competitive field despite only 7 competitors. Don’t forget things are different for pro fitness competitors this year. There are no 45-second routines and the one-piece swimsuit has been dropped. The scores are 50-50 and someone with a great routine but lackluster physique will falter and visa-versa.

When you look at the history of the women competing in this show they all have good routines. The only one unknown is Camala because it’s her IFBB Pro debut. She held her own in Chicago by winning the overall at the 2009 NPC Jr. Nationals so you know she’s not someone to overlook. We haven’t seen Oksana in some time but she made a name for herself with her routines. Tanji Johnson was the runner-up at the 2009 Fitness Olympia so you know if she’s on she’ll be tough to beat. She’ll face another top veteran with Julie Palmer throwing her name into the mix. Julie should be 1 or 2 in the physique round if history repeats itself. She could leave with another title but she’ll need to throw a great routine. Yenny Polanco wasted no time competing as a pro and is already qualified for the 2010 Fitness Olympia. She debuted and placed third at the 2009 Ft. Lauderdale Cup. Bridgette Murray has impressive strength and gymnastic skills in her routine and was last seen competing at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. If she’s been able to dial in her physique and brings a more conditioned she’ll be in the mix. Nita Marquez has more energy than the Energizer Bunny. I get tired just watching her routine but she has some crazy strength skills and is fun to watch. This is Nita’s home turf and look for her to have a quite the cheering crowd in attendance.

Tanji, Julie and Yenny are all qualified for the 2010 Fitness Olympia. If they take the top three spots the fourth place finisher would qualify for the big dance in Vegas. This will definitely be an entertaining event as there’s no clear-cut winner for this show.

The Egg Genie – Perfect Eggs Every Time

I haven’t used this little device but NPC Bikini competitor Kristal Martin swears the Egg Genie is genius. Kristal is currently preparing for the Arnold amateur bikini contest and shared, “seriously – every competitor should have it! You put 7 eggs in there – plug it in and when they are done it buzzes.”

Anyone else have an Egg Genie? It’s only $20 on Amazon and seems like it might be worth checking out.

Today is President’s Day in America and what better way to celebrate than with Peaches?!

Ten Ways to Better Tasting Chicken

Most of you probably eat chicken on a regular basis. It can get a little boring eating the same thing every day but it doesn’t have to be.

chicken

Tip 1. Marinating:
For a richer flavor, season and marinate your chicken for 24 hours before cooking and store it in the refrigerator. The longer you keep chicken in a marinade, the more it’ll be infused with flavor.

Tip 2. Healthy Marinating:
To keep meals healthier, marinate chicken in seasoned fruit juice or chicken broth instead of oil-based marinades before grilling or broiling.

Always store chicken in the fridge while it marinates, even if you only plan to let it soak for 30 minutes.

Tip 3. Seasoning:
Use bold seasonings like freshly grated lemon peel, minced hot peppers, fresh herbs, and infused vinegars to add flavor.

Walk With Watson – Round 3

IFBB Figure Pro Andrea Watson is back for round three. Is it just me or does Andrea get funnier every week?

andreawatson

It’s funny to see men at the gym giving me the googly eye these days…if they only knew that beneath my baggie t-shirt and workout gear I am wearing a Hanes sports bra from high school that is two sizes too small, which has turned a from a bright white to a sort of dungy yellow color and still smells after I wash it. Add granny panties from middle school that have flowers & teddy bears on them (there is no time to do laundry), and at that very second I am contracting my abs so fiercely it’s to prevent my belly full of gas from excreting sounds and odors that should only come from a 300 pound man…yes mister. if you only knew then you definitely would not be thinking, “yeah, hot stuff baby tonight!” That would instantaneously put a damper on their fantasies, don’t you think?

There is a running joke at work about me these days on which level of alert they should be on according to my mood…it goes from green, to yellow, to you better watch yourself Mr…red! I’m sure my cubicle buddies just think I’m a nut when they hear me talking to my husband (Brian) about buying my asparagus, weighing my food just perfectly and our plans to shave my body in the upcoming weeks. Our arguments are not about finances, relationships, etc…no my friends, they involve me crying and complaining about why he hasn’t chopped up my chicken, put my veggies in bags or called Publix to make sure they have orange roughy and asparagus on their shelves. These are important matters…what, is he trying to sabotage me or something? Ah, that’s just the craziness coming out of me again.

My mood these days can be classified as bi-polar at the least…one minute I’m laughing and joking, the next minute I may be on the treadmill crying because I’m just so darn emotional. My hormones are all out of whack…haven’t had my feminine cycle since Christmas….poor Brian, bless his heart – love you pumpkin!

At work, when I am making my way to the ladies room for the second time in 15 minutes, I notice ladies trying to pretend that they are going to the copy room instead of the bathroom so they do not fall victim to the after-math of the stench of my asparagus pee.

Omg, a tragedy almost occurred to me last night as I was driving home from my third cardio session of the day….picture this: I was eating my baggie of chicken when suddenly I lost control of a piece, it slipped from out of my hand and fell between the consol and my seat…I had two options I could either let it go or fight for it…what do you think I did? Of course I decided to fight! I went from going 80 mph on the interstate to 0 mph as I pulled over to the emergency lane, parked my car, put on my hazard lights and went in for the save. A few moments later, not only did I find my juicy piece of chicken (which was now covered by beach sand, hair, etc.) I found a couple of kernels of corn, some shaved carrots, a black-eyed pea and a crusty french frie!!!! Oh joyous day, I could just hear Papa Bombshell Rob saying, “Ok Hobbit (a nickname that my team has given me) that’s all you get for your cheat meal this week…that’s plenty of carbs to fill your belly, I don’t want you holding any water.” Then I start cursing him in my mind with language only comes from a sailor’s daughter.

Ah, the joys of prepping for a show. Are you enjoying the ride so far? Lol.

MMA with Momo – UFC 109 Recap

Momo recaps UFC 109 in amusing fashion.

momomma

UFC 109
Las Vegas, USA – Saturday, January 6, 2010

Main card:
- Randy Couture defeated Mark Coleman by submission at R2;
- Chael Sonnen defeated Nate Marquardt by unanimous decision;
- Paulo Thiago defeated Mike Swick by submission at R2;
- Demian Maia defeated Dan Miller by unanimous decision;
- Matt Serra defeated Frank Trigg by KO at R1;

Preliminary fights:
- Mac Danzig defeated Justin Buchholz by unanimous decision;
- Melvin Guillard defeated Ronys Torres by unanimous decision;
- Robert Emerson defeated Phillipe Nover by unanimous decision;
- Phil Davis defeated Brian Stann by unanimous decision;
- Chris Tuchscherer defeated Tim Hague by split decision;
- Joey Beltran defeated Rolles Gracie by KO at R2.

We saw Frank Trigg getting his butt whopped by Matt Serra and after getting TKO (technical knocked out) he looked very surprised! Haha, if I was there I would say, “you lost brother!” Nate surprised everyone getting taken down at will by a Republican Politician (Chael Sonnen). Chael showed, that just like Bush he used preventative striking and attacked Nate the whole fight. I was kind of sad ’cause Nate is much better looking and that he had no bottom game. Nate what happened? My boy Paulo Thiago made me really proud, first cause I made some money betting on him, second cause he showed that punching is cool but making a guy pass out is even cooler, I guess Mike “Quick” Swick is not so slick! And with the last fight of the night, I was far-fetched with my pick Mark “the Hammer” Coleman, the problem was he forgot to fight and came as if he was going for a picnic.

As of my picks challenger all I have to tell him is that takes some chances sometimes! Deano, its on for ufc 110

But all eyes now are on UFC 110 with my friend and teacher Antonio ”Minotauro” Nogueira, I get nervous thinking about that fight. Cain Velasquez, his opponent, is a young tough fighter. The event is going to take place in the land down under (Australia) land of “wolwerine” Hugh Jackman and Crocodile Dundee. All the tickets were sold out on the first day, so it will be a huge event! Lots of great fights but I will tell more about them when the time comes. Check back with Hardbody.com for more info on MMA news, gossip, interviews and predictions with MOMO :)

If you want a good laugh for today, check this you-tube video out
Its very funny and prolly the typical fighter wanna-be’s you may see around your city!

Erin Stern Works on Becoming “Egylo” During her Countdown to C-bus

IFBB Figure Pro Erin Stern checks in once again with her Coundown to C-bus. Erin’s a few weeks out from her second trip to the Fitness International in Columbus.

erinsterncbus

I tell myself I probably shouldn’t be stepping on the scale – but I walk into the locker room…and there it stands, beckoning me to step on. And, like most girls, my mood can swing either way by pushing that little slider. It hasn’t budged in a few days…great. My workouts have been intense, I started super-sets to keep my heart rate up in the weight room, and the hill, track, and field workouts have kept my muscles full. I am doing one to two long duration cardio days (around 45 minutes), to give my legs a little bit of a recovery. The progress pictures and the measuring tape confirm my progress… so why am I so stuck on the number on the scale?

Thankfully, I didn’t chain myself to the treadmill (which was my first response to the number on the scale). Few things in training are a complete mystery – later that night I got out of my funk and realized that I had done legs the day before. I’ll hold a pound or two of water after a hard leg day. I think about my meals: canned tuna, egg whites…Sriracha sauce..ummm..sodium! Although I don’t have a written workout or meal plan, every day I follow my calories in vs. calories expended, make sure I’m getting enough quality sleep, and structuring my workouts to where I’m able to continue to shape the muscles and get leaner.

My posing is getting better, and I’m visualizing myself on stage – every step, every turn, the suit, hair, and the makeup. For a shy girl, I’ve heard it can be good to create a stage persona. Beyonce is “Sasha” on stage – she is glamorous, sexy, and full of attitude. I’ve been working on my “Egylo” (Eej-Lo); a nickname my sister gave to me when I dyed my hair darker and discovered eyebrow shading… she said I look like an “Egyptian Jennifer Lopez.” After much giggling over the nickname, we decided it would be the perfect stage persona. Egylo saunters in the yoga room, flashes a confident smile, and nails the poses…she’s getting good!
