YAYEEEE! While I’m not a professional fitness competitor (yes, I am captain obvious at times) I do cover many of the shows. The IFBB Professional League has issued an advisory notice that has MAJOR changes for pro fitness competitors. Beginning next month there will be NO ONE-PIECE and NO 45-Second routine!

I’m stoked with this decision because the one-piece is a waste of time, in my opinion. Physiques are shown at their best in the two-piece round although some competitors may not feel that way. They will also save money by eliminating the costly suit. Shows will move much quicker with only one round and if/when the new bikini division is adapted to the Pro League, this will help with the duration of the show. Most fitness competitors I’ve talked to have no problem with the 45-second routine going away. The elimination saves them on purchasing the mandatory black “catsuit” and choreographing another routine.
The following notice was issued by the IFBB Professional League:
FROM: IFBB Professional League
To: All Athletes, Judges, Officials and Promoters
Date: September 9, 2009Subject: FITNESS ELIMINATION of 45-SECOND ROUTINE AND ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT ROUNDS
This will confirm that a proposal has been submitted to the IFBB Professional League to eliminate the 45-second routine and one-piece swimsuit rounds in Pro Fitness.
Although a formal vote will be taken at the IFBB Professional League annual meeting on September 24, 2009, this proposal already has overwhelming majority approval of the IFBB PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE and will therefore be adopted.
Fitness competition will then consist of two rounds – the Two-Piece Bikini and the Two-Minute Fitness Routine – each valued at 50% of the total score.
To provide sufficient lead time to accommodate this rule change, the IFBB Professional League herewith provides notice that the change will take place beginning with the Fort Lauderdale Pro Fitness competition on October 10, 2009.

The only people I see being upset from this notice are the suit makers but life goes on. I applaud the Pro League office for the changes and look forward to them taking place in Florida. BRAVO!
**Note this is ONLY for PRO FITNESS competitors. There isn’t a 45-second routine in the amateur divisions and currently the Pro Figure division still has two rounds.

What about the One-Piece for Figure?
I’m obviously not a pro, but that’s kind of dissapointing that the 45 second is giong away. Us fitness girls actually ENJOY doing routines, even if it means choreographing 2 routines…PLUS, now the mandatory moves will probably have to go into the 2 minute routine, wich is kindof a bummer….I agree with the one piece, but I’d like to see both routines stay! my opinion
I spoke with two of the top pro fitness competitors this morning and they are stoked. The both told me it was less stress on their body and less stress preparing for a show.
VERY few people stick around for the 45-second rounds. Most photographers don’t shoot the round either. Many amateurs aren’t even aware that there is another round in the pro ranks to prepare for.
I enjoy fitness routines but I won’t shed any tears with the 45-second routine going away.
So, there will be no 45s in Ft Lauderdale?
That is correct.
LOL. Great!
Maybe I can do my 45s in the hotel lobby…so it doesn’t go to waste:)
Sandi – AFTER the show I think you should do it on the beach and we’ll film it. LOL!
Well, I think the One Pc change is good…
Question then whether the mandatories will be adopted into the 2 minute routine….
Rick
Ohh…good point, Rick. Didn’t think about that. Hmm…
But regardless, I think this will benefit the entire fitness division greatly in the long run. I’m very happy for them!
OK, Ok, Ok….true about less stress on the body, I guess I just really wanted to wear a black catsuit one day
I’m sure some one will let you wear their suit if you really want to Lauren.
Thanks dude
Isaac, if someone wants to loan me a catsuit, we got a deal! LOL! But…you gotta hold the boom box!!!!
WHAT? You mean you don’t have one already?
I can get the catsuit if you get the ghetto blaster.
I have been asking for this for some time and thrilled to see the 45 sec routine going away. I do love to do the routines, but 4 rounds in one show really was a lot. The black catsuit was just about the most uncomfortable thing you could possibly wear for a routine too : ) This should save competitors time trying to get ready for shows and I hope energize some women who have been on the fence about competing in fitness. I have talked with many pro figure women who have the ability to do fitness, but chose not to because of the high time & financial investment involved.
I do hope they add mandatories to the 2 min routine now.
All I can say is YEAH!
Julie
I’m new to the IFBB Professional League. I resently won the Canadian national and got my pro card. Even I’m also a swimsuit designer I’m very happy with the changes. I will make my pro debut very soon. Can’t wait !
LOL! Deal! I’m all about making my own fun.
I must have ESP…seriously, something in my subconscius kept telling me to wait on ordering my ninja suit. I was thinking i had an injury coming up and THAT was the reason for procrastinating, but whew…was JUST a rule change:)
On a serious note though, I think 4 weeks really isn’t much lead time. Most of us have been practicing for weeks/months and have spent money on suits already as well. It really affects us new pros the most……but anyway……I suppose I can use that 45 as part of my next 2 minute.
On the upside? I think it smooths the transition from the NPC to the IFBB. Two less hurdles to jump between pro card and pro stage, which is good for the SPORT….which is the important thing. Sometimes change is a positive thing
There’s a variety of opinions being voiced (including more of mine) on Siouxcountry.com where some fitness pros are weighing in on the matter.

Sandi – sure the timing may suck for a few but as I posted on sioux…
MAYBE this was implemented for this show because it is the first show to qualify for the 2010 Olympia. How fair would it be for someone who does the Ft. Lauderdale show (the first show to qualify for the 2010 Olympia) to have to do the one-piece and 45 second, while the rest of the shows that qualify for the Olympia next year don’t? Call me crazy but I’d be more pissed if that happened.
It seems the only real issue at hand that has people in an uproar is the first show and it being 4 weeks away. Once we get past that, everyone will hug and sing happy songs about the change, Right?
haha – ya and I have ocean front property in South Dakota to sell.
I found your site on the net and read a some of your posts. Keep up the good work. Look forward to read more from you in the future. If interested in link exchange please contact me.
