Fallin’ for You

Mello Monday… Digging Colbie Caillat’s liver version of Fallin’ for You.

I am trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head

Victor Martinez’s Sister Found Dead

Our condolences to top IFBB Pro Bodybuildiner, Victor Martinez. His sister went missing last week and her body was found over the weekend.

Victor told NY1 news, “She was afraid of work there, there was no cameras in any of the floors, you have guys following her around and exposing themselves to her,” said Victor Martinez, Eridania’s brother. “There were very unsafe working conditions there and that’s why this was supposed to be her last week of work, but unfortunately it turned out another way.”

The Associated Press reports:

Body found at NY building where woman went missing
By TOM HAYS
NEW YORK (AP) —
A female body was found stuffed inside an air-conditioning duct Saturday in a Manhattan skyscraper where a cleaning woman disappeared four days ago.

Police discovered the corpse, hidden in a utility room duct, just before 9 a.m. as they began searching the 26-story tower for 46-year-old Eridania Rodriguez.

The remains had not been officially identified as of late Saturday, but police spokesman Paul Browne said investigators presumed the body was that of Rodriguez, who had been missing since Tuesday night.

A medical examiner was on the scene trying to confirm the find and determine how the woman died. Authorities believe she was murdered but haven’t identified a suspect. They have questioned some people who work in the building.

“We just want answers,” Rodriguez’ brother, professional bodybuilder Victor Martinez, told WNYW-TV.

The body was recovered from the duct late Saturday.

For days, workers at 2 Rector Street wondered how a missing persons case like this was possible in their building.

Like most office towers in the financial district, this one, a few hundred feet from the World Trade Center reconstruction site, got enhanced security after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Cameras cover every exit. Guards staff the lobby 24 hours a day. Visitors are photographed before they are allowed in. The streets outside are patrolled by a high concentration of police officers. Nearly every block in lower Manhattan is covered by security video.

Those cameras recorded Rodriguez when she turned up for work at 5 p.m. Tuesday and again as she moved around the building, but they never showed her leave.

Her last appearance on tape was about 7 p.m. in an elevator lobby. Her cleaning cart was discovered abandoned on the eighth floor. Her street clothing was still in her locker. She missed a dinner date with co-workers at 9 p.m.

Police first swept through the building early Wednesday morning after Rodriguez’ family raised the alarm, but investigators found nothing. They came back in the following days, sure that Rodriguez couldn’t have walked out alive. A sour odor tipped off police to the location of the body.

Workers at the skyscraper were allowed to return to their offices days ago when the original searches were fruitless.

The building has more than 400,000 square feet of interior space and plenty of places to hide, including some floors that were empty, and a subbasement partially flooded with water.

Investigators traveled Friday to a landfill in Pennsylvania where the building’s garbage is taken, on the chance that someone had taken Rodriguez’ body out with the trash.

Rodriguez was born in the Dominican Republic but lived in Manhattan for decades. She was married with several children.

Tenants of the building include noted ground zero architect Daniel Libeskind, law firms and another architectural firm.

Model Throwdown

Two of the top vote getters for the FLEXonline.com Bikini Model Search contest were in attendance at the UFC FAN EXPO. When I asked Amanda Lantona and Tianna Ta who would win the contest this is the reaction I got…

There is still time to vote for your favorite in the contest. You can cast your vote here.

Amanda Latona Ready for Vegas

I caught up with the stunning Amanda Latona this weekend at the UFC FAN EXPO. Amanda was working the BSN booth and rock’n a killer physique. She’s two weeks out from the NPC USA and will be competing in the bikini division. There is a star quality about her that few posses. I have no clue who will show up in Vegas but look for her to be a top contender for a bikini pro card.

MMA Is Big Business

This weekend is the first ever UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas. A number of supplement companies are making an appearance hoping to tap into the MMA market. Will it pay off to target the fastest-growing sport? Time will tell.

My only concern with companies looking to make a little coin off the MMA market is in their marketing strategies. If they try to apply the same marketing techniques they use in the fitness industry, they will crash and burn. Sure some fans already workout and eat healthy but for the most part, fans don’t have a clue about supplementation. In order to be successful companies need to educate the consumers before getting them to open their wallets.

mfcover.jpg
Current issue of Muscle & Fitness.

Magazines are no different when it comes to marketing to this market. The current issue of Muscle & Fitness features MMA fighter, Nate Marquardt on the cover. Other fitness magazines have also put fighters on the covers. Does it work in selling more magazines? Certainly. Just like the fuss over putting Kim Kardashian on the cover of Muscle & Fitness Hers, putting a fighter on your cover is tapping into a new audience.

I’m all for it as I think it will only help in bringing in more fans to the world of bodybuilding and fitness. The women’s side of things are still lagging behind the men in the world of MMA but it’s gaining steam.

Look to Canada’s best fitness magazine, Inside Fitness with it’s current issue. They have the most popular Canadian athlete, UFC Welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, on the cover this month. The August/September ’09 issue features a block of training coverage, featuring his strength and conditioning training program and an in-depth interview with MMA training guru Greg Jackson.

This is the right way to market to a new audience. Don’t just slap a popular figure on the cover but feature their training. Much like Muscle & Fitness’ issue, you get a look at how these fighters train and gain a newfound respect for what they accomplish.

gspinside1.jpg
GSP on the cover of Inside Fitness.

Think it isn’t big business? Sports Illustrated recently reported that the UFC will begin charging companies $100,000 for six months for the right to put their logo on a fighter. That’s 200k a year just for the right to put their logo on the fighter.

If you’re one of the companies or as an individual if you’re getting into the MMA world, think about how you can make yourself relevant. If you’re an MMA fan, expect to see more companies getting in the mix of MMA.

Sici Weinstock Rock’n At Age 42

Many women in the fitness industry don’t like to reveal their age. There are many reasons why and that’s up to each individual should they do so. There are others who embrace it and are proud of their age. Florida’s Sici Weinstock is one woman who is rock’n it at age 42. Yes, this woman looks better than most 22 year olds.

How did she get her start?
I was working out at the gym and noticed a woman who was in great shape. I went up to her and started talking to her about competing. She had competed in a NPC show and suggested that I look into entering a competition. So, a few months later I competed in the NPC Sunshine Classic in March of 2008 and finished 4th and that is how it all began.

Aside from a kick ass physique this lil lady can sing. I’m not talking karoke singing or sing in the shower good. I’m talking stepping on stage with Sting, yes STING. REcently Sici got to sing with Sting and the band as they warmed up before their show. He thought she had an amazing voice and one of the best he’d heard in awhile. How cool is that?

Great job Sici!

Corner Kitchen: Five Tips to Tastier Chicken

I’m not a nutritionist but I do try to eat relatively healthy. I’ve competed in two bodybuilding shows so I know what it’s like to be disciplined and step on a competitive stage. Anyone who has dieted for a competition knows how boring it can get. Many times you find yourself getting creative with the few “allowed” things on your meal plan. Here’s a couple tips you might try with your chicken that I found helped me.

Five Tips to Tastier Chicken:
1) Use Mrs. Dash to help give it some flavor. There are a ton of different flavors now available in your spices section of the grocery store.

2) Allowed Peanut Butter? Combine that table spoon with your chicken while you eat it. It’s almost like a peanut sauce on the bird.

3) Broil your chicken breasts. Cover a sheet pan in tin foil, place the chicken breasts on the pan and then use some I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spray and spray it on the breasts. You can also put some Mrs. Dash or other spice on it. Then broil it. I broil on HIGH and it cooks fairly quickly. Flip it and spray butter on that side and put it back in to finish cooking. When I broil chicken and use the spray butter it stays juicy and doesn’t dry out.

4) Coat those puppies with some spice. I use ground red pepper and it helps give it some heat. I also combine it with a little black pepper. I’m not big on hot, spicy foods but this helps give it some kick.

5) Add a piece or two of low-fat turkey bacon on top of the chicken breast. It may not be “real” bacon but it is a pretty close alternative.

Do you have any tips or tricks for dieting or cooking?
Email me isaac @ liftstudios.com and we’ll post em up. Have a food or topic you want covered with the Corner Kitchen? Post it in the comments or email me.

Too Late To Apologize

This video has over 76 million views on Youtube. Not too shabby considering it’s not the official video to the song. OneRepublic & Timbaland’s Apologize is a song I don’t get tired listening to even though the radio stations played the crap out of it.

I loved you with a fire red, now it’s turning blue
And you say
Sorry like the Angel Heaven let me think was you,
But I’m afraid

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
Woahooo woah

Watch out for Watson

Andrea Watson has been unbeatable in every figure contest she has entered. She won not only the A Class but also the Overall in each NPC show she competed in. Keep in mind, she been a figure competitor for less than a year and she’s already a pro.

Can she follow the footsteps of last year’s JR USA overall winner (Lenay Hernandez) and qualify for the Olympia her first time on a pro stage? Definitely.

Does she have the potential to go into her first pro show and win? Absolutely.

Some will say she has no chance with the likes of Jenny Lynn and Jessica Paxson-Putnam in the mix for the Jacksonville Pro. I beg to differ. Andrea is the one woman who has turned pro this year that I feel can go into the Pro ranks and immediately shake things up.

tweet.jpg
Watson gets twitty with it.
The veterans entering this show better watch out because this little rookie will catch ya sleep’n if you’re not at your all-time best. She’s hitting the cardio like a machine and will be on point for her debut.

Lohan Lifts Sunless Tanning Spray Formula?

The tanning world is heating up beyond the land of fitness and figure. The New York Daily News reports actress Lindsay Lohan’s “sunless secret” may not be her own.

The troubled starlet is being sued by a St. Petersburg, Fla., chemist for stealing the formula for her sunless tanning spray.

Jennifer Sunday filed the lawsuit in Tampa, Fla. Federal court against Lohan and Lorit Simon, a Las Vegas businesswoman who air-brush tans celebrities and partnered up with Lohan to produce Sevin Nyne.

Lilo and Simon claim credit for creating the tanning spray over the last three years.

But Sunday’s attorney, Marcia Cohen, insists her client only recently perfected the formula used in the spray tan.
