My Best EVER!

Have you ever heard a competitor say they are not at their best before a show? Eh, not so much. Totally understood. As a competitor you want to be confident and positive going into a show. When asking competitors how they look before a show they typically say, “I’m at my best” or “I’ve never looked better”. Yet, after the show there is always something that happens to a few of those “best ever” conditioned competitors. My dog ate my carb up meal or my boyfriend stressed me out and I held water or I over-carbed (put down the jar of peanut butter).

Inevitably, we’ll see it again happen again this weekend. Every competitor works hard and goes into a show to do their best but if you happen to be one who missed the mark, just own up. Don’t blame anyone else and don’t complain. If you really were at your best and didn’t win, such is life. Only you, the one putting in the hours of training and dieting, know if you gave it your best.

I hope every competitor is at their best ever and then we’ll see one helluva show.

IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Isabelle Turrell on Local News

Props to Isabelle Turrell for getting some local coverage heading into the Ms. International. Isabelle will be making her first trip to the Arnold where she will compete against a number of seasoned veterans. She looks like she’ll be holding her come show time.

Nice plug for the webcast on bodybuilding.com at the end. These are the types of pieces that will not only help competitors but also the industry as a whole.

Warmer Weather in Columbus & Clocks Ahead This Weekend

Many of you will be traveling to Columbus this weekend for the Arnold Classic. Two things to note. The weather and the time.

Let’s hope this weather holds up. There’s a slight chance of rain but I’ll take warmer weather and rain over cold and snow.
Thursday – 58°
Friday – 56°
Saturday – 66°
Sunday – 66°
Monday – 46°

All Americans should take note of Daylight Saving Time this weekend. Those of you planning on partying it up at the afterparty will need to do it up early. The clocks get set ahead at 2am on Sunday. It will give us an extra hour of sunlight at night, which I’m all for but it sucks that it falls on this weekend. I will need all the sleep I can get. Want to know more about Daylight Saving Time check it out here.

IRONMAN Magazine’s Ruth Silverman Showing Some Luv

I’m a little late on this one since there is a new issue out but thanks to IRONMAN Magazine’s Ruth Silverman for the Hardbody.com plug.

Ruth writes, “Is that a camera in your hand or?… Isaac Hinds has made Hardbody.com a go-to site for news of the ladies’ sports. Better take your vitamins, Isaac. Bikini’s comin’.”

Ruth knows I’m always happy to see her and looking forward to some friendly banter this weekend in Columbus.

Note to self…
Get eyes in back of head. Watch out for Ruth’s stealth photos.

Ruth makes a few predictions on her blog. Will she be right? We’ll see soon. She’s usually spot on with the women’s bodybuilding. PS – Ruth your Canadian friend to the North should read Hardbody more so she knows the one-piece still exists in the Pros and it’s only gone in the NPC. :)

For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)

Most of the IFBB pros are headed to Columbus today, a few will hit the road tomorrow. This weekend marks the 21st Arnold Classic and it should rock. This is an appropriate song of the day heading into Arnold Weekend. We salute all the women are about to rock! ACDC sings it a little better, so give it a listen.

Hardbody Exclusive Photos – Figure & Fitness International Competitors

Mad props to J.M. Manion for providing these photos. Here’s your first look at a few of the top competitors heading into the week’s events. J.M. wouldn’t spill the beans on when these pictures were taken, so they could be four weeks, two weeks or one week out. As you can see the ladies are looking good and the competition will be fierce. We’ll see who brings their A-game to the stage on Friday.

Ft. Lauderdale Pro Show a Go

I had a few people ask me if the IFBB Figure show was still on. The event isn’t currently on the IFBBpro.com schedule but promoter Shannon Dey assures me the event is a go. When the first round of the calendar went out a date hadn’t been established. Now there is a date and it’s set for October 10, 2009. The show will take place at the Parker Playhouse in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Shannon tells me it’s a 1940′s theatre with a burlesque feel to it. There will be valet parking, red carpet, the whole nine yards. This is an all female event.

Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks but mark your calendars now.

Arnold Preview Photos – Greenwood & Juliana

Props to RXmuscle.com for posting a sneak peak at two of this weekend’s competitors. Tracey Greenwood and Juliana Malacarne will both make the trip from the East coast to Columbus. Tracey will be competing in the Fitness International where she hopes to overtake the favorite, Jenn Hendershott for the win. Juliana is competing in the Figure International once again. She has an amazing physique but is often knocked down because of the amount of muscle she carries. She doesn’t look any more muscular than returning champ Gina Aliotti in this pic. Could make things interesting in just a few short days.

Two of the three women in this photo will not be on stage this week in Columbus. This shot was taken from behind the stage during last year’s Fitness International prejudging.

Shook Me All Night Long

Rock on with ACDC’s Shook Me All Night Long!

Pickem and Win on SiouxCountry.com

If you’re itching to interact with some of the top female pros then Siouxcountry.com is the place to be. The forum has a massive collection of information on the women, in a positive environment. You can even win 50 bucks if you correctly pick the top 8 in the Figure International.

The show is incredibly stacked and even though I made my predictions (different once again on siouxcountry – pulling a Lonnie Teper). The show could go a number of ways and we have no idea who will miss the mark and who will nail it. This is all in good fun so don’t get your panties in a bunch if your favorite competitor isn’t being named or if you’re name is absent from the list. :)

Head over to SiouxCountry.com to place your picks.

WAZZZZZUP?

I was chatting with Ms. Adela Garcia this morning and the conversation Adela gave her best WAZZZUP impersonation. Here’s a blast from the past that Adela is bringing back this weekend in Columbus.

Harbody Twitters The Arnold Classic

A few weeks ago I had asked if you were part of the Twit Nation here on hardbody. Most of you didn’t know what it was, why it was all the buzz and what the big deal was all about. I admit I didn’t know much about it despite having had an account for months. Since that time I’ve adapted to the Twitter ways and find it pretty damn cool. You can get news and info in real time. I started “following” people that I would most likely never interact with, like the CEO of ZAPPOS.com and Tony Robbins. The cool thing is you can get the “tweets” (see video below for what that means) sent to your phone by text message or you can view it through your twitter account.

twitterlogo.jpg

We’re going to try something new at the Arnold this year. We’ll keep your posted in real time with all the news, gossip, inside scoops and results as they happen at the Arnold Classic via twitter.  If you don’t have a twitter account – get one. It’s free to join and you can do so in a couple of minutes. Once you have a twitter account find us at http://twitter.com/hardbodynews . There you will be able to follow all the happenings from Columbus.

Here is a video that explains Twitter for those of you still not picking up what I’m putting down. :)

If you have a twitter account post it here and make sure to start following all the action.

Snowstorm Hits the Northeast – Greenwood Out?

snowstorm.jpg
Greenwood reports from Delaware.
A monster snowstorm has hit the northeast side of the US. Fitness Pro, Tracey Greenwood reports that more than 10 inches of snow has fallen with more on the way. Greenwood is currently on Spring Break from her duties as a professor. Some break she’s having. Despite the massive amounts of snow, she assured me nothing will keep her from being at her best this Friday in Columbus. In fact, she was on her way out the door to brave the elements and practice her routine.
It will be around 75 degrees in Denver today.  :)

Arnold Expo Drives Loretta Lynn Nutty

Today’s photo of the day was snapped a couple years ago at the Arnold Expo. The peeps working a booth tend to get a lil nutty by the end of the weekend. Here’s an example of what happens to a fitness model like Loretta Lynn at the end of it all.

Five Finger Death Punch “Never Enough”

Five Finger Death Punch “Never Enough” is today’s song of the day. Rock on!

Don’t Forget About “Stealth” Johnson

IFBB Fitness competitor Tanji “Stealth” Johnson that has been flying under the radar heading into the Fitness International. She had to sit out the 2008 International due to an injury but returned to the Olympia stage where she finished 5th. When I saw Tanji at the IRONMAN Expo she was noticeably smaller than I’d seen her in years past. Unlike bodybuilders, smaller isn’t a bad thing. Tanji carries a good amount of muscle and for her to be in the top call outs she has nail her conditioning. It looks like Tanji is definitely going to bring a smaller, more conditioned physique to the Arnold this year. While most people are talking about Jen, Tracey and Julie (myself included) you can’t rule out Tanji. She definitely has the potential to be in the top three.

Check out the video of Tanji training and discussing her nutrition, workouts and more on bodybuilding.com. As you can see at the four week point she looks to be in great shape. Watch out for Stealth at the Fitness International she could sneak up on a few people.

Hardbody Photo of the Day: Latisha Wilder

A number of people have asked where the photo of the day went. Not to worry. It’s back. Today’s shot is of IFBB Figure Pro Latisha Wilder. Latisha will return to the Figure International stage once again this Friday.

Outside the Lines

Elena Delle Donne shares her story with ESPN’s Outside the Lines. She was once thought of as the future of women’s basketball but that won’t happen. Her identity was basketball. It was all she knew. Many had her pegged at the female Lebron James but she wasn’t having fun. Instead of pursuing basketball, she walked away from it all to do what she wanted to do, which wasn’t basketball.

Are you doing what you want to do?

Kim Lyons teams up with BEBE Sport

IFBB Pro and trainer on NBC’s Biggest Loser, Kim Lyons has teamed up with popular women’s clothing line BEBE Sport. Kim is featured on their web site and shares a bit in the video below.

Thanks to Alyssa Carpio for the heads up on this story. You can meet Kim Lyons at the Bodybuilding.com booth next weekend at the Arnold EXPO.

Kings of Leon – Use Somebody

Kings of Leon has a unique sound to them and one I dig. Apparently one that a few hardbody readers enjoy as well. Two different competitors recommended “Use Somebody” over the weekend.

Thanks Amy and Monique for the recommended tune. Good stuff.
