Hardbody Song of the Day: The Spill Canvas – All Over You

I heard this song on the radio yesterday and it was catchy. So catchy I downloaded it on iTunes and have put it on repeat while working. The Spill Canvas’ “All Over You” is great.

Even better is the group started in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Yes, I’m originally from South Dakota and when I can find anything other than Mt. Rushmore to brag about I will. :) Enjoy today’s song of the day.

The 9-Inch Diet Book

Great, another diet book… just what we don’t need. Not so fast, this one is a bit different in it’s concept. I haven’t read “The 9-Inch Diet” yet but will pick it up this month, simply because of the author. The book is by Alex Bogusky one of the principals at the popular ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky. They came up with the creepy “KING” from Burger King as well as the “Whopper Freakout”. He’s a creative character and that alone has me intriqued by this book. Okay great but what’s the book about?

The 9-Inch Diet

Amazon.com shares:
The 9-Inch Diet is the healthy eating plan America has been waiting for. Far from the fad diets that momentarily populate bestseller shelves, this book promotes a lifestyle that’s simple to understand and easy to stick to. Considering that, on average, we’re now consuming more than 300 excess calories per day, switching to a smaller plate can make a big difference. It’s hard to dispute the facts: by using a 9-inch plate at every meal, we can decrease our caloric intake by 30 to 35 percent! Written by Alex Bogusky with Chuck Porter, The 9-Inch Diet tackles new diet book territory—at one turn focusing on the psychology of why we eat the way we do, while at another providing detailed instructions on how to make plate stepping stones for your garden. Full of pop culture references and expert advice, it’s the first diet book that’s as comfortable on the coffee table as it is on the kitchen table. Bogusky and Porter run what is arguably the most creative advertising agency in the country, if not the world. With years of experience manipulating the masses, two of the best tricksters in the industry explain how you as a consumer are being duped, and how you are actually a part of the conspiracy to make you fat. But more importantly, they teach you how to break the cycle.

Anyone read this book? If so post a comment or drop me an email and let me know what you thought.

Hardbody Song of the Day: Matt Nathanson “Come on Get Higher”

Matt Nathanson’s “Come on Get Higher” is pretty mellow and similar to Jason Mraz‘s sound.

Truvia: A New “Natural Sweetner” from the Stevia leaf

I saw a commercial last night promoting a new natural sweetener called “Truvia“. It’s directly targeting Splenda with it’s messaging. I know a number of you use sweeteners while some of you are dead set against them. What do you think of this new sweetener, would you try it or not for you?

truvia.jpg

Truvia™ natural sweetener is a great tasting, natural, zero calorie tabletop sweetener, made with rebiana, derived from the best tasting part of the stevia leaf. Truvia™ natural sweetener is also an ingredient used to sweeten foods and beverages.

Hardbody Photo of the Day: Jr. Fitness Competitor MaKayla Laurita

If you haven’t picked up the latest copy of Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine be sure to do so. Featured in the magazine are the 2008 Carla Sanchez Jr. Fitness competitors and a couple quotes from the winner, MaKayla Laurita. MaKayla brought the house down with her routine and hammed it up for the crowd. Carla and NPC Colorado Chairman, Jeff Taylor, do a great job promoting health and fitness for the youngsters. I’d encourage other promoters to look at adding a Jr. Fitness competition to their show.

Hardbody Song of the Day: Aerosmith – Pink

A mildly disturbing video for the song PINK but the group Aerosmith rocks.

Hardbody Song of the Day: City and Colour – Save Your Scissors

City and Colour” comes recommended by NPC competitor and rising fitness model star, Monique Minton. I’d never their music before but I’m digging it. “Save Your Scissors” has a great vibe to it. Those of you from Canada may be more familiar with this group, since they’ve done well with their live shows in Canada.

What do you think….

Mix it up in the gym

IFBB Figure Pro Debbie Leung provides a new year’s tip for the Edmonton Sun. She joins some pretty big name celebs in the newspaper’s New Year’s piece.

MIX IT UP – Variety is the spice of gym life, says IFBB pro figure competitor Deb Leung.

“Every workout, I’m trying to do something different … You’re switching it up constantly, so your body doesn’t know what’s hitting it. Because each workout’s different, my body is always shocked with it and it stimulates the muscle fibers.”

IFBB Pro Mah-Ann Mendoza makes top 10 list

The Keizer Times, an Oregon newspaper, put out it’s top 10 stories and female bodybuilder Mah-Ann Mendoza found herself in the #5 spot.

Mah-Ann Mendoza can rightfully claim she is among the world’s elite when it comes to female bodybuilding. That’s because, at age 49, Mendoza placed eighth at the IFBB Ms. Olympia contest in Las Vegas.

This marked Mendoza’s highest finish ever at her sport’s premiere event. The former aerobic instructor turned to bodybuilding because she wanted a challenge.

Hardbody Song of the Day: Candlebox – Change

It’s a new year and time for change. It’s up to you what changes you make in 2009. Candlebox’s “Change” is a rock’n reminder of things to come.

…But I feel that a change is
A change is gonna come
I feel so alive now
And I feel that a change is
A change is gonna come
As I sit here Ill tell you greater things
No longer a part of
A part of someone else’s dreams
So much for your
Common escalations…

Amy Palmer Stays Strong

CantonRep.com published an article on competitor Amy Palmer. Here’s a prefect example of how to use your local media to help tell your story and self-promote.

From a bout with anorexia that plummeted her weight to 98 pounds to binging until she tipped the scales at 202 pounds, Amy Palmer has experienced both ends of the body-weight spectrum.

“But when you start training for an event, you go down to 130 pounds and at the very last, 121. It’s a lot of fish, chicken, asparagus, egg whites, rice, sweet potatoes, grapefruit, apples and protein shakes.”
